Here I summarize in a list of biblical healing short messages, which summarize the biblical healing passages I have found in the books of the Bible that I have examined to date. For in-depth study of biblical healing, go to the posting for each book of the Bible.
Biblical healing messages from Matthew
For full commentary, go to Healing in the book of Matthew.
- Jesus traveled throughout Galilee healing every kind of disease and sickness.
- Jesus tells us to not worry or be anxious about anything.
- The man with leprosy was healed through his faith. He expressed his belief that Jesus could heal him, that He had authority to do so.
- Faith heals whether you are a Jew or a gentile, i.e., the story of the Roman centurion.
- The Roman centurion also recognized by faith, that Jesus had authority to heal.
- Matthew tells us that Jesus fulfilled the prophesy of Isaiah (Isaiah 35: 4-6), when he took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.
- Staying away from sin and repenting from sin when we stray is a sure way to help us stay healthy.
- The woman who suffered hemorrhages for years also was healed through her faith.
- Two blind men were healed from their blindness only after Jesus asked them if they believed He could do so. We are healed by His power but through our faith. No faith, no healing.
- There was no disease or sickness that Jesus could not heal.
- Jesus called his twelve disciples and gave them authority to drive out impure (evil) spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
- He also told them to drive out demons.
- Diseases and sickness come from evil and the evil one, not from God.
- Jesus said, “blessed is the one who does not take offense at Me” (that is, those who accept Him).
- Jesus healed the daughter of a Canaanite woman (a non-Jew), again demonstrating that He came for everybody.
- Jesus rebuked the disciples for lack of faith and healed a man who suffered from seizures and suffered greatly. They had the power but lacked the faith.
- Jesus told the disciples that faith as small as a mustard seed (an exceedingly small seed) can move a mountain. “Nothing will be impossible to you.” The take-home message here is that it is our faith in the action of healing that triggers our healing.
- To get healed of diseases we first need to have faith to receive that healing. Faith is what triggers the healing action and is mentioned over and over in the New Testament.
Biblical healing messages from the books of Moses
For full commentary, go to Healing in the books of Moses.
- Under the Old Covenant, God did intervene in human affairs and gave us hearing and sight, or not (full health, or lack thereof).
- In the book of Exodus, we find the first biblical promise of divine health from God for those that follow and abide in Him.
- God promised the Israelites that He would remove sickness from their midst, and He would fulfill the number of their days.
- The way I understand it is that God does not necessarily dish out diseases on the wicked but rather, as He removes the blessing and protection which He imparts on those who faithfully obey Him, they are subject to the curse and authority of the enemy that reigns in the world since the fall of mankind.
- The men of Israel began to indulge in sexual immorality with Moabite women, who worshiped other gods and performed sacrifices to them. This caused a plague which had killed 24,000.
- When they enter the promised land, the Lord tells Moses to drive out all the inhabitants of Canaan, who worshiped other gods and had all kinds of detestable practices. If not, they would become barbs in their eyes, thorns in their sides, and give them trouble. One thing is clear: we need to be on God’s side.
- After God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, Moses tells us that there is a promise of long life (and therefore of health) as well as of prosperity to those of us that follow God’s commandments and decrees.
- In Deuteronomy, God said that He would take away from the Israelites all sickness; and He would not subject them to any of the harmful diseases of Egypt which they knew about.
- Although it is not stated in the blessings section, these passages tell me that if the Israelites obeyed the Lord’s commands, they would enjoy good health. Otherwise, there would be no difference between the blessed and the cursed state.
- Since the Hebrews did severely disobey the laws, it seems to me that this disease curse on their descendants continued for the rest of the Old Covenant.
- Moses added that God would also bring on them all the dreaded diseases of Egypt and they would stay with them. Now, that is a long list of warnings! Just in case they did not get it, he added that the Lord would also bring on them every kind of sickness and disaster not mentioned here, until they were destroyed, and indeed they were destroyed and suffered many times throughout the Old Testament.
- Conversely, in Deuteronomy, God tells the Israelites that they would live long (obviously with good health) if they were obedient.
- Moses died when he was a hundred and twenty years old, but “his eyesight was not dim, nor his natural strength had abated.” So, Moses was healthy when he died. The message here is that we can die in health; we do not have to be sick to die.
